A raw or unfinished part gets a coating of colored powder. Magnetically charged spray is the secret ingredient here. The powder heats up and melts onto the piece evenly.

The process provides a full, even finish. This method of coating results in a very durable finish and a part that is completely uniform. DC Powder coating is far more resistant to water and other forms of degradation than traditional paint. Powder is the perfect choice for a lasting finish. Also due to the nature of powder application, the end result is a much more even coat than traditional paint. Therefore leaving your part looking flawless.

DC Powder coating is more environmentally friendly and does not produce the volatile organic compounds found in the painting process. Unlike traditional paint, the overspray from powder coating is recycled and does not require the chemical treatment that paint needs.

Preparation for Powder Coating in Maryland

One of the most important steps in powder coating is the initial preparation. Without a clean surface for powder to adhere to, the coating won’t last. This doesn’t mean that your parts have to be completely pristine to accept powder coating. Actually it’s quite the opposite!

Prior to coating your products, we take them through a media blasting process where the finish is smoothed out. This removes rust and debris are from the part. The process is safe for metal parts, quick, and highly efficient. The end result is a part that is prepped and ready for powder coating or ceramic coating. Maybe even just a clear coat if you want to retain the media-blasted look.

What if my parts are already coated?

A common question that we receive is can parts be powder coated again. The answer is that they certainly can, and we specialize in taking the steps needed to prepare them for their new coating. Some coatings may be very worn by the time that you bring them to us, but we’re able to remove even fresh coatings from your parts.

We take the parts through a quick and safe process to remove all of the existing powder before sending them to the media blast stage. In this initial bath, your parts will have all of the previous coatings removed, giving them a much cleaner surface for the new powder to adhere to. Once the coatings are fully removed, they’re sent to media blasting and then can be powder or ceramic coated.
